WINTER/SPRING SEMESTER

JAN 31 – APRIL 30

MOVE ONE STEP INITIATIVE

As a Small Group Leader, your primary role is to know the spiritual condition of your group members and then help each of them move one step closer to Jesus during the semester. Some practical steps to accomplish this are:

  • If a group member is not in a relationship with Jesus, then bring them to a worship experience where they can hear a clear presentation of the Gospel
  • Encourage group members to be water baptized
  • Challenge group members to take their NEXT Step
  • Connect group members to the Dream Team

It is vital to the health of our groups that we as leaders do all we can to help our members identify their next steps for spiritual growth and encourage them to take them. Simply said—help your group members move towards Jesus this semester!

Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds, (Proverbs 27:23).

Praise GOD for the privilege of being in Christ’s family and being called by his wonderful name!

1 Peter 4:16, LB

Healthy families have family pride; members are not ashamed to be recognized as a part of the family. Sadly, there are believers who’ve never publicly identified themselves with GOD’s family by being baptized.

Baptism is not some optional ritual to be delayed or postponed; it signifies your inclusion in GOD’s family. It publicly announces to the world, “I am not ashamed to be a part of GOD’s family.” Jesus commanded this beautiful act for every believer. In fact, Jesus’ Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) gives the same prominence to baptism as it does to the great tasks of evangelism and edification.

Why is baptism so important? Because it symbolizes one of the purposes of your life: incorporation into the fellowship of GOD’s eternal family.

Baptism declares your faith, shares Christ’s burial and Resurrection, symbolizes your death to your old life, and announces your new life in Christ. It’s a celebration.Your baptism is a physical picture of a spiritual truth. It represents what happened the moment GOD brought you into his family.

Understand this: baptism doesn’t make you a member of God’s family; only faith in Christ does that. Baptism shows you are part of GOD’s family. Like a wedding ring, it is a visible reminder of an inward commitment made in your heart. It is an act of initiation, not something you put off until you are spiritually mature. The only biblical condition is that you believe.

Jesus and the people he makes holy all belong to the same family. That is why he isn’t ashamed to call them his brothers and sisters.

Hebrews 2:11, CEV

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Let that amazing truth sink in! Because Jesus makes you holy, GOD is proud of you.

Baptism is also for the washing away of our sins (Acts 2:38). It’s not the water that washes us, but as we are baptized our sins are being washed away by GOD Himself.

Being included in GOD’s family is the highest honor, the greatest privilege you and I will ever receive. Nothing else comes close. Why not pause right now and thank GOD that He included you?

If you haven’t been baptized as an expression of your faith in Christ, do so immediately, as Jesus commanded.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”ARMOR OF GOD PRAYER”][vc_column_text]

Put on the full armor of GOD so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of GOD, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of GOD. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

 Ephesians 6:11-18

First—Put on the Armor of GOD

The Helmet of Salvation

Thank you, Lord, for my salvation. I receive it in a new and fresh way from You, and I declare that nothing can separate me now from the love of Christ and the place I shall ever have in Your kingdom.

The Breastplate of Righteousness

And yes, Lord, I wear Your righteousness today against all condemnation and corruption. Fit me with Your holiness and purity—defend me from all assaults against my heart.

The Belt of Truth

Lord, I put on the belt of truth. I choose a lifestyle of honesty and integrity. Show me the truths I so desperately need today. Expose the lies that I am not even aware that I believe.

The Shoes of the Gospel of Peace

I do choose to live for the Gospel at any moment. Show me where You are working and lead me to it. Do not let me become slack in my walk.

The Shield of Faith

Jesus, I lift the confidence that You are good against every lie and every assault of the enemy. You have good in store for me. Nothing is coming today that can overcome me because You are with me.

The Sword of the Spirit

Jesus, show me specifically today the truths of the Word of GOD that I will need to counter the snares of the enemy. Bring them to mind throughout the day.

Then—Pray

Finally, Jesus, I agree to walk in step with You in everything—in all prayer as my spirit communes with You throughout the day.
