STARTING OVER CLEAN

(Luke 5:4, NLT) [Jesus] said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.”

FOLLOWING HIS EXAMPLE

(Matthew 3:13-15a, NLT) Then Jesus went from Galilee to the Jordan River to be baptized by John. But John tried to talk him out of it. “I am the one who needs to be baptized by you,” he said, “so why are you coming to me?” But Jesus said, “It should be done, for we must carry out all that GOD requires.”

  • Jesus was baptized to show ME how to do all that GOD REQUIRES

OBEYING HIS COMMANDMENT

(Matthew 28:18-19a, NLT) Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them…”

  • Jesus commissioned His DISCIPLES to go baptize new DISCIPLES
  • Water baptism is how I spread the GOOD NEWS

PUTTING ON HIS IDENTITY

(Galatians 3:26-27, NLT) For you are all children of GOD through faith in Christ Jesus. And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes.

  • Water baptism washes away every SIN and HURT from my past
  • Water baptism gives me a new IDENTITY

FRESH START

(Acts 22:16, NLT) “What are you waiting for? Get up and be baptized. Have your sins washed away by calling on the name of the LORD.”

NEXT Step

Follow His EXAMPLE and obey His COMMANDMENT and put on His IDENTITY and be water baptized

“You’ll never get to the more that Jesus has for you if you stay in the shallows of your current understanding!”
REAL, RADICAL LIFE-CHANGE

(Luke 5:4, NKJV) [Jesus] said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.”

REAL, RADICAL LIFE-CHANGE

(James 5:16, 19-20, NLT) Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. My dear brothers and sisters, if someone among you wanders away from the truth and is brought back, you can be sure that whoever brings the sinner back from wandering will save that person from death and bring about the forgiveness of many sins.

There’s a tension that exists between cultural Christianity and true belief:

Living for Jesus for your own PERSONAL BENEFIT vs Living for Jesus to SERVE HIM, and to equip and encourage OTHERS

Godly relationships provide you with three critical elements of life-change:

  1. CONNECTION
  2. PROTECTION
  3. GROWTH

YOU’RE MY RESPONSIBILITY

(Genesis 4:9, NIV) The LORD said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?” “I don’t know,” he replied. “Am I my brother’s keeper?”

  • When we’re born again our lives are no longer about OURSELVES, we live for the BENEFIT of others
  • Real, radical life-change happens in the context of LIFE-GIVING relationships

FRESH START

(Galatians 6:1a, NLT) Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path.

NEXT Step

Accept the RESPONSIBILITY that I’m saved to connect OTHER PEOPLE to Jesus

“There’s a tension that exists between cultural Christianity and true belief: Living for Jesus for your own personal benefit vs Living for Jesus to serve Him, and to equip and encourage others.”
JESUS, YOU’RE FIRST… IN EVERYTHING

(Luke 5:4, NKJV) [Jesus] said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.”

PUTTING JESUS FIRST, FOR REAL THIS TIME

(Matthew 6:31-33, NLT) “Don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of GOD above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.”

  • Most people think that tithing is about giving MONEY, but tithing is actually about giving our HEARTS

Tension caused by a misunderstanding of tithing:

  • Relying on our own STRENGTHS and ABILITIES vs Really TRUSTING Jesus to be my PROVIDER

SWALLOWING CAMELS

Two primary mistakes I make with tithe:

  1. I tithe RELIGIOUSLY
  2. I think JESUS didn’t teach tithing

(Matthew 23:23-24, NLT) “What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are careful to tithe even the tiniest income from your herb gardens, but you ignore the more important aspects of the law—justice, mercy, and faith. You should tithe, yes, but do not neglect the more important things. Blind guides! You strain your water so you won’t accidentally swallow a gnat, but you swallow a camel

  • If we tithe religiously it’s HABIT, but when we tithe from our heart it’s SURRENDER

FRESH START

(Philippians 4:19, NLT) This same GOD who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.

Two personal declarations of surrender:

  1. I’m a Contributor not a Consumer
  2. I desire Excellence

NEXT Step:

Put Jesus FIRST in every part of my life, and give Him the opportunity to PROVE HIMSELF faithful

“If we don’t trust GOD to be our Provider, we don’t believe… we’ve put limitations on our belief… we’ve put limitations on GOD!”
LIVING FULFILLED

(Luke 5:4, NKJV) [Jesus] said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.”

USE YOUR GIFT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

  • The only way to truly live fulfilled is to begin living in your POTENTIAL

(1 Peter 4:10-11, NLT) GOD has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though GOD himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that GOD supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to GOD through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.

  • Jesus gifted you with Divine potential for you to SERVE OTHERS, not YOURSELF

LOVE IN ACTION

(1 John 3:16-19, NLT) We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters. If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can GOD’s love be in that person?

Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions. Our actions will show that we belong to the truth, so we will be confident when we stand before GOD.

Thinking Jesus saved us for our own benefit creates a tension:

  • Finding fulfillment by SATISFYING OURSELVES vs

Finding real fulfillment by INVESTING OURSELVES into others

  • Salvation is love in ACTION
  • Receiving salvation UNLOCKS the potential Jesus has already built into you
  • Serving others RELEASES your potential to make a difference

(1 Corinthians 4:2, NIV) It is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.

NEXT Step:

Discover my GIFTS, then use them to MAKE A DIFFERENCE in someone else’s life

“Receiving salvation unlocks the potential Jesus has already built into you. Serving others releases your potential to make a difference!”
