Is Jesus simply a religious figure to you? Or maybe even a guy who lived a couple thousand years ago who was a pretty decent person?

But what if everything He said about Himself is completely true? How could His Reality change your story?

I BELIEVE IN HIS GOSPEL

(John 20:31, NLT) These [things] are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of GOD, and that by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name.

HEARING THE GOOD NEWS

(Luke 4:16-20, NLT) When [Jesus] came to the village of Nazareth, his boyhood home, he went as usual to the synagogue on the Sabbath and stood up to read the Scriptures. The scroll of Isaiah the prophet was handed to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where this was written:

The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the LORD’s favor has come.”

He rolled up the scroll, handed it back to the attendant, and sat down. All eyes in the synagogue looked at him intently.  Then he began to speak to them. “The Scripture you’ve just heard has been fulfilled this very day!”

  • The Good News is the Story of Jesus

Here’s the Good News:

  1. There is a GOD, and His name is Jesus
  2. He loved me so much that He came to earth to give me freedom from sin
  3. There’s nothing that I can do to earn His free gift

Five life-changing realities of the Good News:

  1. The Good News is for everyone
  2. The Good News sets people free
  3. The Good News opens people’s eyes to GOD-Reality
  4. The Good News brings peace to my life
  5. The Good News is relevant and applicable to me today

  • Jesus Story is more than a good idea… His Truth is Salvation

(John 14:6, NLT) Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.”

NEXT Step: Accept His Story as Truth then receive His Truth as Power for my life

“There is a GOD, and His name is Jesus. He loved you so much that He came to earth to purchase your freedom from sin. There’s nothing that you can do to earn His free gift!”

I BELIEVE IN HIS MIRACLES

John 20:31, NLT

These [things] are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of GOD, and that by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name.

THE MIRACLES OF JESUS

Matthew 11:3-5, NLT

Are you the Messiah we’ve been expecting, or should we keep looking for someone else?”

Jesus told them, “Go back to John and tell him what you have heard and seen—the blind see, the lame walk, those with leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life, and the Good News is being preached to the poor.”

  • John’s question was centered in the limitations of his own circumstance
  • Jesus simply reminded John what the Scriptures had already said, and what was happening despite John’s personal situation

GREATER MIRACLES

John 14:12a, NLT

“I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works…”

Four reasons Jesus did miracles:

  1. He did miracles to show the world Who He is
  2. He did miracles to show us what was possible
  3. He did miracles to show us how to make a difference
  4. He did miracles to empower us to do the miraculous

FRESH START

Ephesians 3:20, NLT

Now all glory to GOD, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.

NEXT Step

Accept that Jesus wants to do something miraculous in my life

“Jesus did miracles to show the world Who He is. He did miracles to show us what was possible. He did miracles to show us how to make a difference. And, He did miracles to empower us to do the miraculous!”

I BELIEVE IN HIS COMMUNION

IN REMEMBRANCE

(Matthew 26:26-28, NLT) As they were eating, Jesus took some bread and blessed it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, “Take this and eat it, for this is my body.”

And he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to GOD for it. He gave it to them and said, “Each of you drink from it, for this is my blood, which confirms the covenant between GOD and his people. It is poured out as a sacrifice to forgive the sins of many.”

  • Jesus instructed the disciples to not connect Passover with a religious ceremony
  • Jesus directly connected GOD’s ancient promise to Israel with every one of us

GOD’S COVENANT

(Exodus 6:6-8, NLT) “I am the LORD. I will free you from your oppression and will rescue you from your slavery in Egypt. I will redeem you with a powerful arm and great acts of judgment. I will claim you as my own people, and I will be your GOD. Then you will know that I am the LORD your GOD who has freed you from your oppression in Egypt. I will bring you into the land I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I will give it to you as your very own possession. I am the LORD!”

  • These promises are GOD’s Eternal Covenant with everyone who believes:
  1. I will free youSalvation
  2. I will rescue youDeliverance
  3. I will redeem youRestoration
  4. I will claim youFulfillment
  • When we receive communion we’re remembering Jesus’ sacrifice, and celebrating GOD’s Eternal Covenant
  1. SalvationFollow Jesus
  2. DeliveranceFind freedom
  3. RestorationDiscover purpose
  4. FulfillmentMake a difference

FRESH START

(Romans 5:7-9a, GNT) It is a difficult thing for someone to die for a righteous person. It may even be that someone might dare to die for a good person. But GOD has shown us how much he loves us—it was while we were still sinners that Christ died for us! By his blood we are now put right with GOD!

NEXT Step

Accept that His body was broken and His blood was spilled to purchase my life

I BELIEVE IN HIS RESURRECTION

HIS DEATH & BURIAL

(John 19:28-30, NLT) Jesus knew that his mission was now finished, and to fulfill Scripture he said, “I am thirsty.” A jar of sour wine was sitting there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put it on a hyssop branch, and held it up to his lips. When Jesus had tasted it, he said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

  • Jesus’ death is significant because it was the completion of His Mission
  • Jesus said, “It is finished!” because there was nothing left to do to pay the price for salvation

(John 19:41-42, NLT) The place of crucifixion was near a garden, where there was a new tomb, never used before. And so, because it was the day of preparation for the Jewish Passover and since the tomb was close at hand, they laid Jesus there.

  • Jesus’ burial is significant because it demonstrates the finality of real repentance

HIS RESURRECTION PROVIDES FREEDOM FROM SIN

(Luke 24:1-6a, NLT) Very early on Sunday morning the women went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. They found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance. So they went in, but they didn’t find the body of the LORD Jesus. As they stood there puzzled, two men suddenly appeared to them, clothed in dazzling robes.

The women were terrified and bowed with their faces to the ground. Then the men asked, “Why are you looking among the dead for someone who is alive? He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead!”

  • Jesus’ resurrection is not only significant, it’s also critical
  • Jesus died, but He didn’t stay that way—He resurrected and is alive!

FRESH START

(Revelation 1:17b-18, NLT) “Don’t be afraid! I am the First and the Last. I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave.”

NEXT Step: Accept that His resurrection gives me victory in my life

“Jesus did all the work, so now there’s nothing left for us to do except simply receive His free gift!”
