Light brings clarity. It’s the catalyst for growth. It helps us find our way. Life simply can’t happen without light—and there’s nowhere it shines brighter than at its source.

So, let’s chase the Lightone step at a time.

(Isaiah 32:8, NLT) Generous people plan to do what is generous, and they stand firm in their generosity.

• Lust is a preoccupation with PLEASURE

• Lust OBJECTIFIES other people in my eyes, and reduces me to being driven by FEELINGS not Truth

(Genesis 3:6NLT) [Eve] was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too.

Four actions of lust that block the Light in our lives:

1. SEE with my desires

2. I DESIRE with my character

3. I TAKE and consume

4. I SHARE my plunder

Lust blocks the Light in my life because lust desires DARKNESS

Four ways that lust displays itself in our lives:

1. JUSTIFY my desires

2. I ACCEPT my desires

3. I CREATE opportunities for my desires

4. I REJECT godly counsel about my desires

(Jeremiah 17:9NLT) The human heart is the most deceitful of all thingsand desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?”

• Chasing Light is about SHARING and GIVING

Four ways I run from lust:

1. Make a COVENANT with my eyes not to look

2. Put GOD’S KINGDOM first in my life

3. GIVE rather than take

4. Share the GOOD NEWS rather than my exploits

• Chasing Light is about allowing the HOLY SPIRIT to guide my life

(Galatians 5:19-25NLT) When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of GOD.

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirits leading in every part of our lives.

(Psalm 27:4NLT) The one thing I ask of the LORD—the thing I seek mostis to live in the house of theLORD all the days of my life, delighting in the LORD’s perfections and meditating in his Temple.

Next Step: SURRENDER my desires to His DESIRE for my life

“Lust is a preoccupation with pleasure. It’s is any desire that comes from a place of self-gratification. If you lust after something you don’t love it, you actually love yourself… a lot!

“Lust is all about self-fulfillment. Lust objectifies other people in our eyes, and reduces us to being driven by feelings not Truth.”

(Isaiah 32:8, NLT) Generous people plan to do what is generous, and they stand firm in their generosity.

(1 Timothy 6:6-10MSG) A devout life does bring wealth, but its the rich simplicity of being yourself before GOD. Since we entered the world penniless and will leave it penniless, if we have bread on the table and shoes on our feet, thats enough.

But if its only money [youre] after, [youll] self-destruct in no time. Lust for money brings trouble and nothing but trouble. Going down that path, some lose their footing in the faith completely and live to regret it bitterly ever after.

• Greed is a preoccupation with POSSESSIONS

Greed reveals my SELFISHNESS, and my selfishness reveals my TRUE NATURE

(Luke 12:16-20NLT) A rich man had a fertile farm that produced fine crops. He said to himself, What should I do? I dont have room for all my crops.’ Then he said, I know! Ill tear down my barns and build bigger ones. Then Ill have room enough to store all my wheat and other goods. And Ill sit back and say to myself, My friend, you have enough stored away for years to come. Now take it easy! Eat, drink, and be merry!”’ But GOD said to him, You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for?

• Greed is rooted in UNBELIEF and FEAR

How much have I given away?

1. To GOD

(Malachi 3:10GWT) Bring one-tenth of your income into the storehouse so that there may be food in my house. Test me in this way,” says the LORD of Armies. See if I wont open the windows of heaven for you and flood you with blessings.

2. To the NEEDY

(1 John 3:17TLB) But if someone who is supposed to be a Christian has money enough to live well, and sees a brother [or sister] in need, and wont help themhow can GOD’s love be within them?

• I can’t empty a GENEROUS pocket

How do I defeat greed? I have to GIVE IT AWAY

(2 Corinthians 9:8AMP) And GOD is able to make all grace (every favor and earthly blessing) come to you in abundance, so that you may always and under all circumstances and whatever the need be self-sufficient [possessing enough to require no aid or support and furnished in abundance for every good work and charitable donation].

How do I Chase Light?

1. Give to GOD WEEKLY

2. Look for ways to give DAILY

Next Steps: Return GOD’s TITHE, then share my ABUNDANCE with people who are in need

“Greed is a preoccupation with possessions.

“Greed lives in people not things… it’s about getting more stuff, it’s about our feelings of distrust toward other people. Greed destroys our ability to trust GOD because a greedy person cannot trust GOD.

“Greed tries to erase GOD as our Source…to make us self-reliant. It reveals our selfishness, and our selfishness reveals our true nature.”

(Isaiah 32:8, NLT) Generous people plan to do what is generous, and they stand firm in their generosity.

(John 12:24-26GWT) “I can guarantee this truth: A single grain of wheat doesnt produce anything unless it is planted in the ground and dies. If it dies, it will produce a lot of grain. Those who love their lives will destroy them, and those who hate their lives in this world will guard them for everlasting life. Those who serve me must follow me. My servants will be with me wherever I will be. If people serve me, the Father will honor them.”

• Chasing Light means that I’m in a constant pursuit of JESUS

• Pride blocks the Light in my life by placing ME first

• Lust blocks the Light in my life by placing my DESIRES first

• Greed blocks the Light in my life by placing my NEEDS first

(Proverbs 11:24-25NIV) One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. A generous person will prosperwhoever refreshes others will be refreshed.

• Chase Light by running to GENEROSITY

• The only way to invest in ETERNITY is to leave a LEGACY

• The value of my life isn’t determined by how much I ACHIEVE or ACCUMULATE, but by how much of my life I GIVE AWAY

Three ways Generosity adds value to my life

• Generosity MATURES me by placing others before me

• Generosity HEALS me by placing Jesus’ desires for me before my own desires

• Generosity SUSTAINS me by sharing my abundance with those in need

(Isaiah 32:8NLT) Generous people plan to do what is generous, and they stand firm in their generosity.

Next Step: Make a lasting INVESTMENT in the Kingdom of GOD by living GENEROUSLY

“Chasing Light means that we’re in a constant pursuit of Jesus… there’s less of us and more of Him in every aspect of who we are. It means that we’re clearing away the things in our lives that block His Light from shining into and out of our lives.

“This is how we die to ourselves… this is how we leave a lasting legacy!”
