It’s here—in this intimate moment—when you meet GOD face to face.

ABRAHAM | THE VOICE AND THE FAMILY

>> READ SERMON NOTES

(Exodus 33:11a, NLT) Inside the Tent of Meeting, the LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend.

THE VOICE & THE FAMILY

(Genesis 12:1-4a, NLT) The LORD had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you. I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.”

So Abram departed as the LORD had instructed…

Three key elements about Abraham’s story I should notice:

  1. Abraham had no HERITAGE to lean on
  2. Abraham apparently RECOGNIZED GOD’s voice
  3. Abraham TRUSTED and OBEYED GOD without hesitation

ABRAHAM’S REACTION

(Genesis 12:1, 4a, NLT) The LORD had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you… So Abram departed as the LORD had instructed…

  • GOD will always call me out of COMFORT
  • Abraham HEARD GOD’s VOICE and stepped out in FAITH
  • Am I ready to FOLLOW JESUS even when I CAN’T SEE His Plan?

NEXT Step: FOLLOW Jesus even when I CAN’T SEE His Plan

MOSES | THE VOICE & THE PROMISE

(Exodus 33:11a, NLT) Inside the Tent of Meeting, the LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend.

THE VOICE

(Exodus 3:1-5, NLT) One day Moses was tending the flock of his father-in-law, Jethro, the priest of Midian. He led the flock far into the wilderness and came to Sinai, the mountain of GOD. There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in a blazing fire from the middle of a bush. Moses stared in amazement. Though the bush was engulfed in flames, it didn’t burn up. “This is amazing,” Moses said to himself. “Why isn’t that bush burning up? I must go see it.

  • Moses was AMAZED

(Exodus 3:1-5, NLT) When the LORD saw Moses coming to take a closer look, GOD called to him from the middle of the bush, “Moses! Moses!” “Here I am!” Moses replied.

  • GOD noticed Moses’ CURIOSITY and CALLED him
  • Moses responded to GOD’s call: “HERE I AM

THE PROMISE

(Exodus 33:12-15, NKJV) Then Moses said to the LORD, “See, You say to me, ‘Bring up this people.’ But You have not let me know whom You will send with me. Yet You have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have also found grace in My sight.’ Now therefore, I pray, if I have found grace in Your sight, show me now Your way, that I may know You and that I may find grace in Your sight. And consider that this nation is Your people.”

  • Jesus is calling you to a place you’ve NEVER BEEN

(Exodus 33:12-15, NKJV) “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

Then [Moses] said to [GOD], “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here.”

  • Living life GUIDED by the Presence of GOD FREES you from your PAST

FRESH START

(2 Corinthians 3:16-18, NLT) But whenever someone turns to the LORD, the veil is taken away. For the LORD is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the LORD is, there is freedom. So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the LORD. And the LORD—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.

Three things happen in our lives when the veil is removed:

  1. We see the GLORY of GOD
  2. We DIFFRACT the Glory of GOD
  3. We’re CHANGED into His glorious IMAGE

NEXT Step

Find real FREEDOM by surrendering YOUR PAST to His Plan

SAMUEL | THE VOICE & THE KINGDOM

(Exodus 33:11a, NLT) Inside the Tent of Meeting, the LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend.

GOD IS CALLING

(1 Samuel 3:1-4a, NLT) The boy Samuel served the LORD by assisting Eli. Now in those days messages from the LORD were very rare, and visions were quite uncommon.

One night Eli, who was almost blind by now, had gone to bed. The lamp of GOD had not yet gone out, and Samuel was sleeping in the Tabernacle near the Ark of GOD. Suddenly the LORD called out, “Samuel!”

  • Jesus isn’t regulated by CULTURE, SOCIETY or TRADITION

(1 Samuel 3:7, NLT) Samuel did not yet know the LORD because he had never had a message from the LORD before.

  • I need a PASTOR to help me understand GOD’s voice

(1 Samuel 3:10, NLT) And the LORD came and called as before, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel replied, “Speak, your servant is listening.”

  • GOD spoke, SAMUEL listened
  • Jesus is CALLING me because He has a PURPOSE for my life

LISTENING TO GOD’S VOICE

  • Jesus is CALLING me to establish His KINGDOM in my world

FRESH START

(Proverbs 2:1-5, NLT) My child, listen to what I say, and treasure my commands. Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding. Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding. Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures. Then you will understand what it means to fear the LORD, and you will gain knowledge of GOD.

Four ways to listen to GOD’s voice:

  1. Tune my EARS to His wisdom
  2. Focus on UNDERSTANDING what He’s saying
  3. Be desperate for GODly INSIGHT and understanding
  4. Value GOD’s INPUT and SEARCH for more from Him

NEXT Step

Spend time in prayer this week and LISTEN to what Jesus is saying, WRITE IT DOWN, then SHARE it with another believer

PAUL | THE VOICE & THE MISSION

PASTOR MONTE YOUNG | 8/28/2016

>> READ SERMON NOTES

(Exodus 33:11a, NLT) Inside the Tent of Meeting, the LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend.

THE VOICE

(Acts 9:3-6, NLT) As [Saul] was approaching Damascus on [his] mission, a light from heaven suddenly shone down around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul! Saul! Why are you persecuting me?”

  • Paul was already on a mission, but Jesus called Him to the MISSION

“Who are you, lord?” Saul asked. And the voice replied, “I am Jesus, the one you are persecuting! Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”

Two things to notice from Paul’s first encounter with Jesus:

  1. He recognized Jesus’ AUTHORITY
  2. Jesus REVEALED Himself, and gave Paul his NEXT STEP

THE MISSION

(Ephesians 3:1, CEV) Christ Jesus made me his prisoner, so that I could [serve] you

Paul’s face-to-face encounter with Jesus had three results:

  1. He surrendered to Jesus’ AUTHORITY
  2. He OBEYED GOD’s voice, rather than his own AGENDA
  3. He ACCEPTED the Purpose JESUS had designed him to accomplish

Three ways Paul’s life changed:

  1. Where his trust was in his opinions, he found FAITH in Jesus
  2. Where his desire was to judge people, he found HOPE in Jesus
  3. Where his past caused him to mistrust and hate people, he experienced the unending LOVE of Jesus

FRESH START

  • Jesus calling me BEYOND what I know about MYSELF to what He KNOWS about ME

(1 Corinthians 13:11-13, NIV) When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

NEXT Step:

Make a difference by finding MY PLACE on the DREAM TEAM and by SERVING other people
