The greatest gift we could receive this Christmas season is GOD’s Gift of Hope,

and His name is Jesus!

JESUS IS THE HOPE OF THE WORLD

>> READ SERMON NOTES

(Job 11:18, NLT) Having hope will give you courage. You will be protected and will rest in safety.

Four reasons why John wrote this letter to the believers:

1. To PROMOTE JOY

2. To PREVENT SIN

3. To PROVIDE PROTECTION

4. To PROVIDE ASSURANCE

JESUS IS REVEALED

(1 John 1:1-2, NLT) We proclaim to you the one who existed from the beginning, whom we have heard and seen. We saw him with our own eyes and touched him with our own hands. He is the Word of life. This one who is life itself was revealed to us, and we have seen him. And now we testify and proclaim to you that he is the one who is eternal life. He was with the Father, and then he was revealed to us.

• John is making a case that Jesus is REALITY

Three ways I see Jesus is Reality:

1. Jesus is ETERNAL

2. Jesus is ALIVE

3. Jesus is REVEALED

JESUS IS FELLOWSHIP

(1 John 1:3, NLT) We proclaim to you what we ourselves have actually seen and heard so that you may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.

Three ways Jesus brings me into fellowship with other believers:

1. We have BELIEF IN JESUS in common

2. We ENJOY JESUS together

3. We’re UNIFIED in worship and His Mission

• Jesus also brings me into fellowship with GOD

JESUS IS COMPLETE JOY

(1 John 1:4, NKJV) And these things we write to you so that your joy may be full.

Three ways humanity tries to find joy outside of Jesus:

1. MONEY

2. KNOWLEDGE

3. PLEASURE

• My joy is full only when I have FAITH in Jesus

(1 Peter 1:8, NLT) You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy.

• My faith in Jesus gives me SALVATION

(1 Peter 1:9, NLT) The reward for trusting him will be the salvation of your souls.

FRESH START

• Apart from JESUS there is no HOPE

Next Steps: Accept JESUS and receive EVERYTHING GOD has for me

(Hebrews 13:8, NLT) Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

“Happiness is a feeling, but Joy is a Divine impartation. Our joy in Jesus comes from the Hope that He gives. When we place our hope in anything but Jesus our joy diminishes.”

JESUS IS MY HOPE

(Job 11:18, NLT) Having hope will give you courage. You will be protected and will rest in safety.

MY HOPE IS IN JESUS

(Psalm 62:5, NLT) Let all that I am wait quietly before GOD, for my hope is in him.

Two gifts I receive from true relationship with Jesus:

1. CALM

2. HOPE

MY SALVATION IS IN JESUS

(Psalm 62:6, NLT) He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken.

Two gifts I receive when I recognize Jesus as my Rock:

1. Today is UNSHAKABLE because Jesus is my FOUNDATION

2. Tomorrow is UNSHAKABLE because Jesus is my SALVATION

MY PROTECTION IS IN JESUS

(Psalm 62:7, NLT) My victory and honor come from GOD alone. He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me.

Two gifts I receive when I recognize Jesus as my Refuge:

1. My VICTORY comes through what Jesus accomplishes THROUGH ME

2. People recognize JESUS in my and are attracted to HIM

JESUS IS MY HOPE

(Psalm 62:8, NLT) O my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him, for GOD is our refuge.

Two ways I’ll know that Jesus truly is my Hope:

1. I TRUST Him at all times

2. I empty MYSELF as an offering to Him

FRESH START

(Hebrews 13:8, NLT) Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Next Steps: Recognize JESUS as EVERYTHING I’ll ever need

“When you recognize Jesus as your Hope there’s no need to look for strength or salvation anywhere else. Humans like options (we love to hedge our bets). But without risk there can be no reward. Do you feel like your life is constantly being shaken? Is every day a struggle?

“Let me ask you this: Who is your Foundation? When Jesus is your Rock nothing can shake you!”
