Many people believe that the Bible has no relevance to any aspect of life outside of church or faith.

But, the GOD-Truth is that Jesus’ Character is applicable and relevant to every aspect of our lives… we just have to discover GOD’s Life Hack.

(Ecclesiastes 1:2, 9-11, NLT) “Everything is meaningless,” says the Teacher, “completely meaningless!”

History merely repeats itself. It has all been done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new. Sometimes people say, “Here is something new!” But actually it is old; nothing is ever truly new. We don’t remember what happened in the past, and in future generations, no one will remember what we are doing now.

MY KNOWLEDGE

(Ecclesiastes 1:18, NLT) The greater my wisdom, the greater my grief. To increase knowledge only increases sorrow.

  • The pursuit of KNOWLEDGE feeds my pride
  • Human knowledge is LIMITED

GODLY KNOWLEDGE

  • GOD’s Life Hack for limited knowledge – GODLY WISDOM

(Ecclesiastes 7:1-14, NLT) A good reputation is more valuable than costly perfume. And the day you die is better than the day you are born. Better to spend your time at funerals than at parties. After all, everyone dies—so the living should take this to heart. Sorrow is better than laughter, for sadness has a refining influence on us. A wise person thinks a lot about death, while a fool thinks only about having a good time. Better to be criticized by a wise person than to be praised by a fool. A fool’s laughter is quickly gone, like thorns crackling in a fire. This also is meaningless. Extortion turns wise people into fools, and bribes corrupt the heart. Finishing is better than starting. Patience is better than pride. Control your temper, for anger labels you a fool. Don’t long for “the good old days.” This is not wise. Wisdom is even better when you have money. Both are a benefit as you go through life. Wisdom and money can get you almost anything, but only wisdom can save your life. Accept the way GOD does things, for who can straighten what he has made crooked? Enjoy prosperity while you can, but when hard times strike, realize that both come from GOD. Remember that nothing is certain in this life.

  • My limited wisdom feeds my PRIDE
  • GODly wisdom leads me to HUMILITY

HACKING SUCCESS

(Ecclesiastes 1:2, NLT) “Everything is meaningless,” says the Teacher, “completely meaningless!”

Three areas of human pride:

  1. Pride in what I KNOW
  2. Pride in what I DO
  3. Pride in what I HAVE

MY SUCCESS

(Ecclesiastes 2:21-23, NLT) Some people work wisely with knowledge and skill, then must leave the fruit of their efforts to someone who hasn’t worked for it. This, too, is meaningless, a great tragedy. So what do people get in this life for all their hard work and anxiety? Their days of labor are filled with pain and grief; even at night their minds cannot rest. It is all meaningless.

  • Success feeds my pride because it’s all about MYSELF
  • Success in this life is WASTED EFFORT

COMPANIONSHIP

(Ecclesiastes 4:7-12, NLT) I observed yet another example of something meaningless under the sun. This is the case of a man who is all alone, without a child or a brother, yet who works hard to gain as much wealth as he can. But then he asks himself, “Who am I working for? Why am I giving up so much pleasure now?” It is all so meaningless and depressing.

Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.

  • Jesus didn’t design me to DO LIFE alone
  • Jesus’ plan for me to experience ABUNDANT LIFE is in Life-giving RELATIONSHIPS with other believers
  • Real success in this life is measured in RELATIONSHIPS not ACHIEVEMENTS

FRESH START

(Ecclesiastes 12:13b, NLT) Fear GOD and obey his commands, for this is everyone’s duty.

HACKING STUFF

(Ecclesiastes 1:2, 9-11, NLT) “Everything is meaningless,” says the Teacher, “completely meaningless!” History merely repeats itself. It has all been done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new. Sometimes people say, “Here is something new!” But actually it is old; nothing is ever truly new. We don’t remember what happened in the past, and in future generations, no one will remember what we are doing now.

MY STUFF

(Ecclesiastes 2:10-11, NLT) Anything I wanted, I would take. I denied myself no pleasure. I even found great pleasure in hard work, a reward for all my labors. But as I looked at everything I had worked so hard to accomplish, it was all so meaningless—like chasing the wind. There was nothing really worthwhile anywhere.

  • I constantly pursue things that GRATIFY MYSELF
  • My stuff feed my pride because it’s SELF-FULFILLING
  • Self-fulfillment is IDOLATRY

Two kinds of idols:

  1. GOLDEN CALVES
  2. ISAACS

(James 1:2, NLT) Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.

  • I seek self-fulfillment because I am FORGETFUL

(Psalm 106:13-14, NIV) But they soon forgot what he had done and did not wait for his plan to unfold. In the desert they gave in to their craving; in the wilderness they put GOD to the test.

(Psalm 106:43-45, NIV) Many times he delivered them, but they were bent on rebellion…for their sakes he remembered his covenant and out of his great love he relented.

PURPOSE & INVESTMENT

(Ecclesiastes 3:12-13, NLT) I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live. That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil—this is the gift from GOD.

(Proverbs 25:14, NLT) Like a cloud without rain is a man who boasts of gifts he does not give.

  • GOD’s Life Hack for Self-fulfillment: INVESTMENT

(Ecclesiastes 11:1-6, NLT) Send your grain across the seas, and in time, profits will flow back to you. But divide your investments among many places, for you do not know what risks might lie ahead. When clouds are heavy, the rains come down. Whether a tree falls north or south, it stays where it falls. Farmers who wait for perfect weather never plant. If they watch every cloud, they never harvest. Just as you cannot understand the path of the wind or the mystery of a tiny baby growing in its mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the activity of God, who does all things. Plant your seed in the morning and keep busy all afternoon, for you don’t know if profit will come from one activity or another—or maybe both.

  • Investment is me using my STUFF to serve others

Four elements of joy:

  1. My PURPOSE
  2. His SCHEDULE
  3. His WAY
  4. For OTHERS

(Hebrews 12:2, NLT) Looking to Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of GOD.

FRESH START

NEXT Steps

  1. Ask another believer about their PURPOSE
  2. Discern if I’m on His SCHEDULE or MINE
  3. Look for ways to SERVE in GOD’S WAY
  4. Use my PURPOSE to BLESS someone else
