Living Fulfilled

As we close out this series, This Is Living, we build off of the messages of Living Contented despite our circumstances and choosing to Live Satisfied with a healthy fear of the Lord to examine how we may Live Fulfilled by pursuing the purpose GOD has placed within us.

“Then, calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?” (Mark 8:34-37, NLT).

His Purpose

The first thing we must realize as we seek to live with a divine sense of fulfillment is that it doesn’t come from realizing our own personal dreams. Instead, we find fulfillment through accomplishing our GOD given purpose. Now, that’s not to say that our dreams and GOD’s purpose do not overlap — many times GOD will use our dream and repurpose it for His kingdom and we will find our fulfillment through using our GOD-given passions to serve His purpose for us in His kingdom. The next logical question then becomes, “How do I discover my purpose and find fulfillment?” To discover our purpose, we start with two foundational truths.

His Example

”But don’t just listen to GOD’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the Word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then GOD will bless you for doing it” (James 1:22-25, NLT).

First, as the passage from the book of James suggests, the Word of GOD is a mirror that shows us how we should do life. This guide is the first set of clues we have to our purpose and how to apply our passions to furthering the kingdom of GOD. As we align our lives with the calling GOD has placed on our life and reflect the character of Jesus, we will naturally find ways that we are uniquely wired to serve and participate in the kingdom.

His Path

“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me” (Jeremiah 29:11-13, NLT).

Second, we recognize and have faith in GOD’s plan for our life. When we offer up our own prideful desire to go our own way, GOD reveals His way to us. Here, on GOD’s terms, is where we find the point where his unique design of our hearts and his unique purpose for us in serving His people collide.

His Design

Only after establishing Jesus as the model for our life and GOD’s path as the way to finding fulfillment do we then turn inward and examine how GOD has designed us for His purpose.

What are the GOD-centered things that get us excited?
What aspects of your day are particularly life-giving?
Is there a gift that GOD has given us that we aren’t using fully, or at all?
What resources has GOD given that we can offer to further His kingdom?

Each of these questions can lead us to fulfillment in our lives through following the example of Christ, trusting in GOD’s path, and discerning his personal design of our passions to discover His purpose for us.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″ css=”.vc_custom_1422323455062{background-color: #f7f7f7 !important;}”][vc_column_text]
