Relationships can be hard work, and sometimes it’s easy to feel disconnected… even when you’re surrounded by people.

Jesus wants you to know that it’s His Plan that you experience truly authentic relationships… all you have to do is connect the pieces.

CONNECTING THE PIECES OF AUTHENTIC FAITH

I go to church… isn’t that enough to show that I love Jesus?

There’s a difference between authentic Faith and religion

MATTHEW 22:36-40 NLT Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses? Jesus replied, 'You must love the LORD your GOD with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.

FAITH BEGINS WITH YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF YOUR ROLE IN YOUR SPIRITUALITY

To build healthy spirituality we have to be present in the process

FAITH IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE FAITH ATTRACTS AND DEVELOPS OTHER BELIEVERS

To build healthy spirituality we must be aware of how our own Spirituality impacts the lives of others

People who have difficulty trusting others actually have very little faith in themselves.

Your spirituality is fully formed when you're connected to other people

You need to be developed, and you need to develop others

THE FOCUS OF OUR FAITH CONNECTS THE PIECES OF OUR SPIRITUALITY

To build healthy spirituality we have be connected to Jesus

Do you really know Him personally, or do you just know about Him?

Your Spirituality must be built on the foundation of Who He is

MAKING THE CONNECTION

THE PIECES OF AUTHENTIC FRIENDSHIPS

1. Ourselves
If we want friends we have to be friendly

2. Others
Accept others where they are

8 Ways to Build Authentic Friendships

• Don’t Brag

PROVERBS 27:1-2 NKJV Do not boast about tomorrow, For you do not know what a day may bring forth. Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; A stranger, and not your own lips.

Be the person that praises your friends and family rather than one-uping their best story

• Don’t Envy

PROVERBS 27:4 NKJV Wrath is cruel and anger a torrent, But who is able to stand before jealousy?

• Be forthright

PROVERBS 27:5-6 NKJV Open rebuke is better than love carefully concealed. Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

• Don’t forsake your roots

PROVERBS 27:8 NKJV Like a bird that wanders from its nest is a man who wanders from his place.

• Stay close

PROVERBS 27:9-10 NKJV Ointment and perfume delight the heart, And the sweetness of a man's friend gives delight by hearty counsel. Do not forsake your own friend or your father's friend, Nor go to your brother's house in the day of your calamity; Better is a neighbor nearby than a brother far away.

• Have Great Timing

PROVERBS 27:14 NKJV He who blesses his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, It will be counted a curse to him.

• Add value

PROVERBS 27:17 NKJV As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.

• Don’t be moved by flattery

PROVERBS 27:21 NKJV The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold, And a man is valued by what others say of him.

3. Jesus
The closer we get to Jesus the stronger our friendships with other people will be

PROVERBS 18:24 NKJV A man who has friends must himself be friendly, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

MAKING THE CONNECTION

To have healthy friendships we need to…
Make the time and effort to be friendly
Accept people the way they are
Realize our relationship with Jesus makes all other relationships better

PART 3 - CONNECTING THE PIECES OF AUTHENTIC FAMILY

SERMON NOTES

CONNECTING THE PIECES OF AUTHENTIC FAMILY

Does it really matter if my family and romance(s) involve Jesus?

AMOS 3:3 NKJV Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?

What you prioritize in your family becomes your family’s culture

Romance:

If you compromise your values for the sake of romance, your romance will compromise you when a better option comes along

Authentic Romance is a physical and emotion attraction that results in absolute devotion

Spouses:

If everything else in your life is more important than Jesus, it won’t be long until your spouse also becomes secondary

Authentic Marriage is a absolute devotion to the person Jesus created for you

Parents:

You show your kids just how important Jesus in your life when you make worshipping Him secondary to everything else in their lives

Authentic Family is absolute devotion to Jesus Christ being First, from childhood to adulthood

MAKING THE CONNECTION

Ourselves

Healthy romances look ahead to healthy families

Others

Healthy romances are between two people who are on the same page

Jesus

Healthy romances begin with Jesus and follow His Plan for romantic love

JOSHUA 24:15 NLT If you refuse to serve the LORD, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served (your past before you knew GOD)? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live (the god of the world around you)? But as for me and my family, we will serve the LORD.

NEXT STEP

TAKE-AWAY

If I want my family to be built on Jesus, I have to build my romance on Him as well

The closer I am to Him, the stronger—and more authentic—my romances, and my family will be
