Jesus saved us on purpose, for His Purpose. He’s entrusted every follower with an amazing responsibility. What are we doing to accomplish His Mission?

(Luke 12:48, MSG) “Great gifts mean great responsibilitiesgreater gifts, greater responsibilities!”

THE PITCH

(Matthew 25:14-15NLT) The Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. He called together his servants and entrusted his money to them while he was gone. He gave five bags of silver to one, two bags of silver to another, and one bag of silver to the lastdividing it in proportion to their abilities. He then left on his trip”

Three truths about the players:

1. All three were SERVANTS

2. The master TRUSTED them all

3. The master gave them RESPONSIBILITY according to their ABILITY

THE INVESTMENT

(Matthew 25:16-18NLT) The servant who received the five bags of silver began to invest the money and earned five more. The servant with two bags of silver also went to work and earned two more. But the servant who received the one bag of silver dug a hole in the ground and hid the masters money.”

• Investment is all about RISK

Three ways to risk GOD’s investment into my life:

1. REINVESTMENT

2. SWEAT-EQUITY

3. HEDGING

THE ROI

(Matthew 25:19aNLT) After a long time their master returned from his trip and called them to give an account of how they had used his money…”

• When GOD trusts me with responsibility He holds me ACCOUNTABLE for His investment

(Matthew 25:19b-23NLT) “The servant to whom he had entrusted the five bags of silver came forward with five more and said, ‘Master, you gave me five bags of silver to invest, and I have earned five more.’ “The master was full of praise. Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Lets celebrate together!’ “The servant who had received the two bags of silver came forward and said, Master, you gave me two bags of silver to invest, and I have earned two more.’ “The master said, Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Lets celebrate together!

• When I’m FAITHFUL and ACTIVE with what I have GOD trusts me with greater responsibilities

(Matthew 25:24-25NLT) Then the servant with the one bag of silver came and said, ‘Master, I knew you were a harsh man, harvesting crops you didnt plant and gathering crops you didnt cultivate. I was afraid I would lose your money, so I hid it in the earth. Look, here is your money back.

Three characteristics of an unprofitable servant:

1. PRID

2. FEAR

3. WASTE

• GOD is intensely concerned with PROFIT

FRESH START

(Matthew 25:29NLT) To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away.

• I’m saved ON PURPOSE for His PURPOSE

Next Step:

DISCOVER my gifts, ACCEPT my responsibility, then MAKE A INVESTMENT that lasts

“When we’re faithful with what GOD has entrusted to us He trusts us with more responsibilities. Do you want to know what GOD has called you to do? Start being faithful with what you have… reinvest your gift (put GOD first in your time, talent and treasure)… plant where you’re planted… be active, and don’t sit around waiting for your next instruction.

“When we’re faithful and active with what we have GOD trusts us with greater responsibilities!”

THE FAMILY OF JESUS (Orphan Sunday)

ORPHANED

(Psalm 68:4-6aNLT) Sing praises to GOD and to his name! Sing loud praises to him who rides the clouds. His name is the LORD—rejoice in his presence!

Father to the fatherlessdefender of widowsthis is GOD, whose dwelling is holy. GOD places the lonely in familieshe sets the prisoners free and gives them joy

• An orphan is someone who has been LEFT ALONE

Two primary reasons people are orphaned:

1. DEATH in the family

2. ABANDONED by family

• The Mission of the church is TO SEEK AND SAVE THE LOST

THE FAMILY OF JESUS

(Romans 8:14-17aNLT) All who are led by the Spirit of GOD are children of GOD.

So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received GOD’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, Abba, Father.” for his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are GOD’s childrenAnd since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of GOD’s glory.

How can NOLA Church truly be the Family of Jesus?

1. We VALUE EVERY SOUL

2. We GO AFTER THE ONE

3. We DIG DEEP

4. We PRACTICE UNITY

5. We are CONTRIBUTORS not CONSUMERS

6. We don’t MAINTAIN we MULTIPLY

7. We WON’T FORGET

FRESH START

(John 14:15-17a, 18NLT) If you love me, obey my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth… No, I will not abandon you as orphansI will come to you.”

Next Steps: Open my HEART to receive Jesus, then open my LIFE to serve the orphaned

“The church Jesus built is supposed to be a community… a family. But every year people are orphaned spiritually because another church dies… more than 4,000 church in the US close every year; and every year churches marginalize people—spiritually abandoning them; more than 3,500 people walk away from church every day.

“The reason this has happened is because the church—the Family of Jesus—has collectively forgotten our Mission!”

ROOTED IN HOPE

(Luke 12:48, MSG) “Great gifts mean great responsibilitiesgreater gifts, greater responsibilities!”

ROOTED IN HOPE

(Hebrews 11:1NLT) Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.

• Living the Mission calls me to invest SEEDS OF FAITH in the soil of POTENTIAL

• Before I see the results of of my planting my investment must be ROOTED IN HOPE

Two ways my investment in the Mission is rooted in hope:

1. Put my faith in JESUS  and NOTHING ELSE

(Colossians 2:6NLT) And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your LORD, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him.

2. Let my investment be the OVERFLOW of my relationship with Jesus

(Colossians 2:7NLT) Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.

SHARING HOPE

(Romans 5:1-2NLT) Therefore, since we have been made right in GOD’s sight by faith, we have peace with GOD because of what Jesus Christ our LORD has done for us. Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing GOD’s glory.

• Jesus is the GLORY OF GOD

Two ways I share GODs Glory:

1. RECEIVING Jesus

2. SHARING Jesus

• Living the Mission requires DEDICATION

(Romans 5:3-5NLT) We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly GOD loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.

FRESH START

(2 Corinthians 3:12, 17NLT) Therefore, since we have such a hopewe are very bold… Now the LORD is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the LORD is, there is freedom.

Next Step: ACCEPT Jesus, RECEIVE His Spirit and SHARE His Glory

“The church Jesus built is supposed to be a community… a family. But every year people are orphaned spiritually because another church dies… more than 4,000 church in the US close every year; and every year churches marginalize people—spiritually abandoning them; more than 3,500 people walk away from church every day.

“The reason this has happened is because the church—the Family of Jesus—has collectively forgotten our Mission!”

A MISSION TO RESCUE

SAVED TO RESCUE

(James 2:14-16NLT) What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but dont show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone? Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, and you say, Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you dont give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do?

• Jesus SAVED ME so that I can rescue others

Three realities about salvation:

1. Salvation isn’t ENOUGH

2. Salvation produces GOOD DEEDS

3. Salvation without good deeds is USELESS

(James 2:17NLT) Faith by itself isnt enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.

COMPLETING SALVATION

(James 2:21-24NLT) Abraham was shown to be right with GOD by his actions… You see, his faith and his actions worked together. His actions made his faith complete. And so it happened just as the Scriptures say: Abraham believed GOD, and GOD counted him as righteous because of his faith.” He was even called the friend of GOD. So you see, we are shown to be right with GOD by what we do, not by faith alone.

• My salvation is COMPLETED by my ACTIONS

(James 2:25-26NLT) Rahab the prostitute is another example. She was shown to be right with GOD by her actions when she hid those messengers and sent them safely away by a different road. Just as the body is dead without breath, so also faith is dead without good works.

• My actions are the LIFE of my SALVATION

FRESH START

Next Step: RECEIVE salvation, LIVE to make a difference, and RESCUE the lost

(Psalm 71:2NLT) Save me and rescue mefor you do what is right. Turn your ear to listen to me, and set me free.

“Jesus saved you so that you can rescue others.

“Good deeds or actions won’t save you, but if you’re truly saved your actions and good deeds are the overflow of your relationship with Jesus. Receiving salvation is only the beginning… it’s not random, and there’s a Purpose!

“Three realities about salvation: Salvation isn’t enough… there’s more! Salvation produces good deeds… we have to be doers! Salvation without good deeds is useless… it’s a wasted investment!”
