What do people see when they look at Christians? Are they seeing religion, or are they seeing Jesus shining through imperfect people?

What would happen if we peeled away our masks and allowed His Spirit to be seen?

MASKED | Hidden & Undeveloped

(Galatians 5:22-23, NLT) But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

RECOGNIZING THE MASKS

  • What are you SHINING to the world around you?

(2 Corinthians 3:16-18, NLT) Whenever someone turns to the LORD, the veil is taken away. For the LORD is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the LORD is, there is freedom. So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the LORD. And the LORD—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.

  • When we live behind a mask our lives are HIDDEN and we never GROW

Four masks that we wear that hide our GOD-Identity:

  1. Our EXPERIENCE
  2. Our BELIEFS
  3. Our DESIRES
  4. Our MISUNDERSTANDING

UNMASKED FREEDOM

  • Masks rob our FREEDOM and keep us from discovering our PURPOSE

Four ways to live in unmasked freedom:

  1. Follow Jesus and allow Him to be your IDENTITY
  2. Find freedom that only comes from living TRANSPARENTLY
  3. Discover your purpose by removing your RELIGION mask and your SOCIAL mask
  4. Make a difference by serving others in the STRENGTH of Who Jesus is, not who you are

NEXT Step: Live life without a MASK, and shine Jesus, not RELIGION

Racish

I DON’T REALLY HATE PEOPLE, I’M JUST A LITTLE RACISH

  • DIFFERENCES don’t divide us, FEAR does
  • Fear of differences is PREJUDICE
  • Racism isn’t a SKIN problem, it’s a SIN problem
  • Jesus calls every believer to be just LIKE HIM

(Colossians 3:10-11, NLT) Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him. In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us.

LOVE: GOD’S ANTIDOTE FOR PREJUDICE

(Romans 12:9-10, 14-21, NLT) Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other

Bless those who persecute you. Don’t curse them; pray that GOD will bless them. Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with each other. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all!

Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable. Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone.

Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of GOD. For the Scriptures say, “I will take revenge; I will pay them back,” says the LORD. Instead, “If your enemies are hungry, feed them. If they are thirsty, give them something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals of shame on their heads.”

Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.

Four ways to love people beyond your differences:

  1. Follow Jesus and ACCEPT OTHERS for who they are, just like they are
  2. Live in the freedom that comes from not JUDGING OTHERS
  3. Discover how Jesus can use my DIFFERENCES to fulfill His Purpose for me
  4. Serve others by embracing our DIFFERENCES, and loving them as INDIVIDUALS not projects

LOVE: FREEDOM EXPRESSED

(Galatians 5:13-14, NLT) For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love. For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

  • Receiving Love invites me into FREEDOM
  • Living Love allows me to EXPERIENCE Freedom every day
  • Real Freedom is loving OTHERS the same way I love MYSELF

LOVE: IMITATING GOD

(Ephesians 5:1-2, NLT) Imitate GOD, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to GOD.

  • When I receive salvation I’m called to IMITATE JESUS in everything I do
  • Real love SACRIFICES itself to give other people FREEDOM

Four ways I live in the freedom of love:

  1. Follow Jesus’ example of loving others without AGENDA
  2. Live truly free by shining the LIGHT and LOVE of Jesus to others
  3. Discover my Purpose as I INVEST MYSELF into others
  4. Receive the Love of Jesus and SERVE OTHERS in the strength of His Love
