It makes sense, then, that our lives start with GOD reaching out and touching us with His breath to bring us to life.

GOD’s touch in our lives heightens our awareness of His design, His thumbprint on our lives, and how He has ordained us for His purpose in His kingdom come. When we feel Him guiding us, we can more confidently follow His will and allow His loving, yet firm, hand to direct our path and point us in the right way.

“[Jesus] said ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.’ Then he breathed on them and said, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone’s sins, they are forgiven.’ (John 20:21-23a, NLT).

Touched by God’s Breath

As Jesus breathes and the Holy Spirit is exhaled, it connects with both Old and New Testament ways of describing the Holy Spirit. In the Old Testament the Hebrew word ruach was used to name the Holy Spirit and translates to English as “a breath or release of air, essence.” When GOD touches us with His breath, we are touched by His essence. In the New Testament, the similar idea of pneuma refers to “a violent exhalation of breath or wind.” When we are truly touched by GOD as the Holy Spirit, we can do nothing but exhale His love and essence to those around us. As GOD’s Spirit touches us, we reach out and touch others with His gracious embrace.

Baptized in Spirit

“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you” (Acts 1:8, NLT).

Not only does GOD’s breath touch us, but it overwhelms and submerges us, just as the root word baptizo implies when it’s used to describe the Holy Spirit descending in the passage above.

When we are steeped and submerged in the Holy Spirit, our spirit is renewed as we drink deep of His presence. Our soul is repurposed in His character as we are surrounded by His love. Our body learns the effortless dance of an intimate relationship with GOD as we begin to naturally respond to the leading hand of GOD touching our lives.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″ css=”.vc_custom_1422323455062{background-color: #f7f7f7 !important;}”][vc_column_text css_animation=””]
